Week 99: Corolla Meetup

Very strange week. On Thursday we were gone all day in Milano getting a new car! Unfortunately they had to take all the monitoring systems out of the old cars and put them in the new ones one by one. Because Lodi is so close to Milano we were literally last.

On Saturday we had fufu with one of our African brothers. He let us make part of it which was a lot of fun.

This week we got a new senior couple in Lodi to take the place of the Miles! They are the Gardeniers and they're amazing! They both served together in this mission 30 years ago so they're basically unmatched.

On Sunday we went to Muggiò for the baptism of one of the little girls in our ward. Right when we were going to go over for the actual ordinance, they realized the drain was open so they had to refill the font. That can take up to an hour or two, so they called on me to go up and give an impromptu talk to kill time. I was ready for a full filibuster but then after about 5 minutes they told me they had fixed the problem. I was actually a little disappointed I didn't get to speak for longer.

On Monday I went to Pavia with Anziano Pavia! We had a good time and just told each other so many stories from college and the mission during our downtime. We went to a little city and taught a really awesome lesson. He opened up to us a lot and we were able to have a really great spiritual discussion. Unfortunately we missed our train home and got stranded for a bit, but if was fine because we met this guy who we think needed us to be there to answer some of his questions. It was a great day overall. Finished it off with a nice pizza Mantovana, which has pumpkin cream instead of tomato sauce. It was funky.

Today we went to Milano and while we were waiting for the others to pull up, some random guy came up to talk to us. It was our off day today so we weren't even paying attention to people around us. He told us he'd been baptized 20 years ago but didn't really go to church anymore. He said he was in Bergamo looking for work, so I was able to tell him how to get to the Bergamo chapel since I used to serve them (one year ago wow). Anyway, it was a miraculous encounter for sure because we totally should've missed our train, but the fact that we made it meant we were in the right place at the right time to meet this guy. God is good ☝️

Christ extends his mercy to everyone, we just have to be the ones to accept it. It's that simple.

Settimana molto strana. Giovedì siamo stati tutto il giorno a Milano a prendere una macchina nuova! Purtroppo hanno dovuto togliere tutti i sistemi di monitoraggio dalle auto vecchie e metterli in quelle nuove, una per una. Poiché Lodi è così vicina a Milano, siamo stati letteralmente gli ultimi.

Sabato abbiamo mangiato fufu con uno dei nostri fratelli africani. Ce ne ha fatto preparare una parte ed è stato molto divertente.

Questa settimana abbiamo una nuova coppia senior a Lodi che prende il posto dei Miles! Sono i Gardenier e sono fantastici! Hanno servito insieme in questa missione 30 anni fa, quindi sono praticamente ineguagliabili.

Domenica siamo andati a Muggiò per il battesimo di una bambina del nostro rione. Proprio quando stavamo per fare l'ordinanza, si sono accorti che lo scarico era aperto e hanno dovuto riempire di nuovo il fonte. Questo può richiedere un'ora o due, quindi mi hanno chiesto di andare a tenere un discorso estemporaneo per ammazzare il tempo. Ero pronto a fare il filibustiere, ma dopo circa 5 minuti mi hanno detto che avevano risolto il problema. In realtà sono rimasto un po' deluso di non aver potuto parlare più a lungo.

Lunedì sono andato a Pavia con Anziano Pavia! Ci siamo divertiti e ci siamo raccontati tante storie dell'università e della missione durante i ritagli di tempo. Siamo andati in una piccola città e abbiamo tenuto una lezione davvero fantastica. Lui si è aperto molto con noi e abbiamo avuto una grande discussione spirituale. Purtroppo abbiamo perso il treno per tornare a casa e siamo rimasti bloccati per un po', ma è andata bene perché abbiamo incontrato un ragazzo che pensiamo avesse bisogno di noi per rispondere ad alcune delle sue domande. Nel complesso è stata una bella giornata. Abbiamo finito con una bella pizza Mantovana, che ha la crema di zucca al posto della salsa di pomodoro. È stato divertente.

Oggi siamo andati a Milano e mentre aspettavamo che gli altri arrivassero, un tizio si è avvicinato per parlare con noi. Oggi era il nostro giorno libero, quindi non abbiamo prestato attenzione alle persone intorno a noi. Ci ha detto di essere stato battezzato 20 anni fa, ma di non andare più in chiesa. Ha detto che si trovava a Bergamo in cerca di lavoro, così sono riuscito a dirgli come raggiungere la cappella di Bergamo, dato che ho servito lì (un anno fa, wow). Comunque, è stato sicuramente un incontro miracoloso, perché avremmo dovuto perdere il treno, ma il fatto che ce l'abbiamo fatta significa che eravamo nel posto giusto al momento giusto per incontrare questo ragazzo. Dio è buono ☝️
