Week 105: Comically Large Cheese

We started the week off going to a meeting in Firenze on Thursday. It was the first time in a year and a half that I'd been to the Firenze chapel, since I left in February of last year. I had a moment in the chapel on my own and it was such a bizarre experience being back and thinking to all the things that happened over the past two years. So many memories with my old companions in that building. Once again, it was quite poetic.

We were organizing our bookshelf the other day and found out we have way too many pamphlets so we've been putting them all around our neighborhood. Aside from that we had some really good lessons, and one of our friends even went as far as to say that what we taught him about the Plan of Salvation and Atonement literally changed his life and he called his wife to tell her all about it.

Our Vescovo talked to us about how he wants to centralize our Sunday meetings more on Christ. As I thought of a quote to sum it all up, I thought of this one from Brigham Young (through Our Relationship With God by Elder Christofferson):

"My faith is not placed upon the Lord’s working upon the islands of the sea, upon his bringing the people here, … nor upon the favors he bestows upon this people or upon that people, neither upon whether we are blessed or not blessed, but my faith is placed upon the Lord Jesus Christ, and my knowledge I have received from him."

The important thing here is to understand that our faith is rooted in Christ Himself. Yeah, receiving blessings can strengthen our testimonies, but that's only fluff compared to the foundation we need to build by receiving a witness of Christ. This is because we will not always receive the blessings we want when we want them. However, if our faith is based in Christ and centered in Him, we have no need to let our faith waver in those difficult moments. Center yourself on Christ and you'll be much stronger spiritually.

TRADUZIONE IN ITALIANO

Abbiamo iniziato la settimana andando a una riunione a Firenze giovedì. Era la prima volta in un anno e mezzo che andavo alla cappella di Firenze, da quando me ne sono andato nel febbraio dell'anno scorso. Sono stato per un po' nella cappella da solo ed è stata un'esperienza così particolare tornare e pensare a tutte le cose che sono successe negli ultimi due anni. Ho così tanti ricordi con i miei vecchi colleghi in quell'edificio. Ancora una volta, è stato molto toccante.

L'altro giorno stavamo organizzando la nostra libreria e abbiamo scoperto di avere troppi opuscoli, così li abbiamo distribuiti in tutto il quartiere. A parte questo, abbiamo fatto delle lezioni molto belle, e uno dei nostri amici è arrivato a dire che ciò che gli abbiamo insegnato sul Piano di salvezza e sull'Espiazione gli ha letteralmente cambiato la vita e ha chiamato sua moglie per raccontarle tutto.

Il nostro Vescovo ci ha parlato di come vuole incentrare le nostre riunioni domenicali maggiormente su Cristo. Quando ho pensato a una citazione per riassumere il tutto, mi è venuta in mente questa di Brigham Young (citata in Il nostro rapporto con Dio dell'Anziano Christofferson):

“La mia fede non è riposta nell’operato del Signore sulle isole del mare né nel Suo portare le persone qui […] né nei favori che concede a questo o a quel popolo né nel ricevere o meno benedizioni; la mia fede, invece, è riposta nel Signore Gesù Cristo, e la conoscenza che possiedo l’ho ricevuta da Lui ".

La cosa importante qui è capire che la nostra fede è radicata in Cristo stesso. Certo, ricevere delle benedizioni può rafforzare la nostra testimonianza, ma è solo una sottigliezza rispetto alle fondamenta che dobbiamo costruire ricevendo una testimonianza di Cristo. Questo perché non sempre riceveremo le benedizioni che vogliamo quando le vogliamo. Tuttavia, se la nostra fede è basata su Cristo e centrata su di Lui, non abbiamo bisogno di lasciare che la nostra fede vacilli in quei momenti difficili. Centratevi su Cristo e sarete molto più forti spiritualmente.
