Week 96: Liter of Gatorade

On Saturday we went to Milano for a sports activity and we played soccer under the sun for two hours. It really brought me back to the Firenze days, except this was a full size field and there were like 30 people trying to play. Anyway, I didn't really have any water so after we got back to our area I bought a liter of gatorade and drank all of it.

We were going to ride our bikes over to the church with one of our friends this week but since we'd never used them we had to fix them up. Unfortunately we discovered last second that my bike had a huge gash in the front tire and so it was draining air super fast. We didn't have time to get it fixed so we just rode over with a pump to fill up the tire before each leg of the trip. Unfortunately our friend got stuck working overtime so we just had to go home. Probably for the best since I don't know if me or my bike would've survived going all the way to the church. It was a nice Firenze throwback yet again though since I hadn't really ridden a bike since the first week of my mission.

On Monday we had an exchange with the Zone Leaders so I went up to Muggiò. On the way over I was running late for the train and then got caught in a mob of Lodigiani at the train station. I didn't know so many people could live in such a small city. I missed my train because of problems with the ticket machines and then had no idea which train was coming after since I had no internet. I just hopped on the first train to Milano and prayed that I could find a connecting train. Thankfully that actually wasn't too hard and I made it to Muggiò not too much later. As I was stepping off the train to find Anziano Wilcox, some random guy put his arm around me and was like "Anziano!" It turned out to be a member of the church in Muggiò who hadn't been in a long time since he works on Sundays. He was a really good guy and invited Anziano Wilcox over later in the week. Just a nice little miracle to make the train delay worth it.

I read this verse the other day and it was a good reminder to put things into an eternal perspective. That's why the Plan of Salvation is so important to understand. It helps us see how our actions have a great impact on our futures and it also reminds us of our dependence on Christ and His Atonement. We need to do good to become more like God, not because we want recognition. That's how we find true and lasting happiness.

Sabato siamo andati a Milano per un'attività sportiva e abbiamo giocato a calcio sotto il sole per due ore. Mi ha riportato davvero ai giorni di Firenze, solo che questo era un campo di dimensioni regolari e c'erano circa 30 persone che cercavano di giocare. Comunque, non avevo acqua, così dopo essere tornati nella nostra zona ho comprato un litro di gatorade e l'ho bevuto tutto.

Questa settimana avremmo dovuto andare in chiesa in bicicletta con uno dei nostri amici, ma dato che non le avevamo mai usate dovevamo sistemarle. Purtroppo abbiamo scoperto all'ultimo momento che la mia bici aveva un enorme squarcio nel pneumatico anteriore e quindi stava perdendo aria molto velocemente. Non abbiamo avuto il tempo di farla riparare, quindi siamo uscire con una pompa per riempire la ruota prima di ogni tratta del percorso. Purtroppo il nostro amico è rimasto bloccato a causa del lavoro straordinario e quindi siamo dovuti tornare a casa. Probabilmente è stato meglio così, perché non so se io o la mia bici saremmo sopravvissuti fino alla chiesa. È stato comunque una belle reminiscenza di Firenze, visto che non andavo in bicicletta dalla prima settimana di missione.

Lunedì abbiamo fatto uno scambio con i Capi Zona e sono andato a Muggiò. Durante il tragitto ho fatto tardi per prendere il treno e mi sono ritrovato in mezzo a una folla di lodigiani alla stazione. Non pensavo che in una città così piccola potesse vivere così tanta gente. Ho perso il mio treno a causa di problemi con le biglietterie automatiche e poi non avevo idea di quale treno sarebbe arrivato dopo, dato che non avevo internet. Ho preso il primo treno per Milano e ho pregato di trovare una coincidenza. Per fortuna non è stato troppo difficile e sono arrivato a Muggiò non molto tempo dopo. Mentre scendevo dal treno per trovare Anziano Wilcox, un tizio a caso mi ha abbracciato e mi ha detto "Anziano!". Si è rivelato essere un membro della chiesa di Muggiò che non veniva da molto tempo perché lavora la domenica. Era davvero una brava persona e ha invitato Anziano Wilcox a casa sua nel corso della settimana. Un piccolo miracolo che ha reso il ritardo del treno degno di nota.

Ho letto questo versetto l'altro giorno e mi ha ricordato di mettere le cose in una prospettiva eterna. Ecco perché il Piano di Salvezza è così importante da comprendere. Ci aiuta a vedere come le nostre azioni abbiano un grande impatto sul nostro futuro e ci ricorda anche della nostra dipendenza da Cristo e dalla sua espiazione. Dobbiamo fare del bene per diventare più simili a Dio, non perché vogliamo un riconoscimento. È così che troviamo la felicità vera e duratura.
