Week 92: The Legendary Wallace Scambio

Anziano Wallace and I have been in three districts together, totalling 7 transfers over the past 11 transfers. Somehow we haven't had an exchange together since last June so we were pretty excited to get back together this past Thursday. We got fed for both meals and then had some pretty awesome lessons in there. Our Bishop's family made us Mexican food which is not something you find every day here in Italy. Also I think at least four times that day we got caught driving in circles for 15 minutes looking for parking for our car.

On Saturday a kid in our ward got baptized and then asked me day of to play piano. I'm awful at sight reading so a few of the songs were absolute trainwrecks. Regardless, they asked me to play in church next week so I guess it was passable (either that or they're desperate haha).

We have a friend from Peru who got baptized like 30 years ago but his records got lost so we're going to baptized him again 🌊🌊🌊 another kid in our ward also got permission from his dad to get baptized so we got good stuff coming here!

On Monday we did a mini blitz in Pavia. I was with the one and only Anziano Yokota, the king of Cimiano. After finding there a bit, we went back to Milano and just had a good time teaching and eating kebab.

I liked this quote from Kevin J. Worthen, the old BYU president:

"Too often we ask the wrong question when we fail. We ask, 'Am I good enough?' But the real question is, 'Is God good enough?' Is He as good as He says He is? Can He really deliver on His promise that 'all things' will 'work together for [our] good' if we will trust Him and strive to do the best we can and keep going whenever we fall short?"

This idea also came up in my study of Preach My Gospel chapter 1 this week: "And when I desire to rejoice, my heart groaneth because of my sins; nevertheless, I know in whom I have trusted." 2 Nephi 4:19

Sometimes as a missionary and in life, we get so caught up in the fact that we can't do enough or that we aren't good enough. We need to remember however that God is aware of this and that's why He sent His Son to atone for us. It's part of the plan and we need to remember that so we can implement it. As Presidente Wood always said, it shouldn't be heavy, let the Lord do the heavy lifting. Stop trying to do everything yourself; turn it over to the Lord, that what His Atonement is for. Trust Him.

Io e Anziano Wallace siamo stati insieme in tre distretti, per un totale di 7 trasferimenti negli ultimi 11. Non abbiamo mai fatto uno scambio insieme dallo scorso giugno, quindi eravamo piuttosto entusiasti di tornare insieme giovedì scorso. Ci hanno offerto pranzo e cena e poi abbiamo fatto delle lezioni molto belle. La famiglia del nostro Vescovo ci ha preparato del cibo messicano, che non si trova tutti i giorni qui in Italia. Inoltre, credo che almeno quattro volte quel giorno abbiamo finito con il girare in tondo per 15 minuti alla ricerca di un parcheggio.

Sabato un bambino del nostro rione si è battezzato e poi mi hanno chiesto lì per lì di suonare il pianoforte. Sono una frana nella lettura delle note a vista, quindi alcuni inni sono stati un vero e proprio disastro. Comunque, mi hanno chiesto di suonare in chiesa la settimana successiva, quindi credo che sia stato passabile ( o questo oppure sono disperati haha).

Abbiamo un amico peruviano che si è battezzato circa 30 anni fa, ma i suoi certificati sono andati persi, quindi lo battezzeremo di nuovo 🌊🌊🌊 un altro ragazzo del nostro rione ha ottenuto il permesso da suo padre di battezzarsi, quindi abbiamo buone cose in arrivo!

Lunedì abbiamo fatto un mini blitz a Pavia. Ero con l'ineguagliabile Anziano Yokota, il re di Cimiano. Dopo aver trovato un po' di ricerca lì, siamo tornati a Milano e ci siamo divertiti a insegnare e a mangiare kebab.

Mi è piaciuta questa citazione di Kevin J. Worthen, il vecchio presidente della BYU:

"Troppo spesso ci poniamo la domanda sbagliata quando falliamo. Ci chiediamo: "Sono abbastanza bravo?". Ma la vera domanda è: "Dio è abbastanza buono?". È così buono come dice di essere? Può davvero mantenere la sua promessa che "tutte le cose" "coopereranno per il [nostro] bene" se ci fidiamo di Lui e ci sforziamo di fare il meglio che possiamo e di andare avanti ogni volta che non riusciamo?".

Questa idea è emersa anche nello studio del capitolo 1 di Predicare il mio Vangelo questa settimana: "E quando desidero gioire, il mio cuore geme a causa dei miei peccati; nondimeno io so in chi ho riposto fiducia.". 2 Nefi 4:19

A volte, come missionari e nella vita, siamo così presi dal fatto che non possiamo fare abbastanza o che non siamo abbastanza bravi. Dobbiamo però ricordare che Dio ne è consapevole ed è per questo che ha mandato Suo Figlio a espiare per noi. Fa parte del piano e dobbiamo ricordarlo per poterlo attuare. Come ha sempre detto il Presidente Wood, non deve essere pesante, lasciate che sia il Signore a fare il lavoro pesante. Smettete di cercare di fare tutto da soli, affidatevi al Signore, a questo serve la sua Espiazione.

Fidatevi di Lui.
