Week 80: Juiced Up

Crazy week this week honestly. I had an exchange with a new missionary for starters, which was wild because I hadn't been with a trainee since I finished training Anziano Ferguson a year ago. We got to eat fufu with our Nigerian friend from Como 1 which was pretty sick.

On Saturday I got to baptize one of the Lugano Sorelle's friends. It was a huge honor since I hadn't baptized anyone since like May. It was also in Switzerland so that made it extra cool. After that we walked like 3 miles to cross the Swiss border on foot and bring a Book of Mormon to another friend. I had to ask some Africans for directions in French but I think the only words I spit out where "2" and "man." Totally worked though. Shoutout to the month of French I took in 6th grade. Anyway, we asked our friend if he wanted to be baptized and he said yes. He even started quoting the Book of Mormon having literally never read it, the whole lesson was just insane.

On Sunday we were way short of our finding goal but through some grit with online finding methods and the literal hand of God we found 7 people and even passed our goal for the week. We didn't even leave the apartment to street contact, just stuck to our phones and made some calls. The Lord provides yet again.

On Monday we had interviews with the Woods but we got there two hours late because of a problem with the trains. Yesterday we had a miraculous lunch with a family in our ward. They were baptized in Napoli 50 years ago and this week we had Savona's new senior couple visiting Como. It just so happened that one of them had served in Napoli around that time and this family found out they were in town so we all got invited over for lunch. As the family told the story of how they found our church, the senior missionary started remembering the events as he heard it from the other missionaries he served with. It turned out he was in fact there and he had met them. It was super touching seeing them reunited after 50 years after basically a chance meeting here in Como. The cool thing about working for God is that He makes things like this work out in a way that you get to see the results of your hard work in the craziest ways possible.

Spiritual thought!

I've pondered a lot on the topic of forgiveness and reconciliation for the past 6 years or so, so naturally it's been a recurring theme on my mission. This week I was studying The Ministry of Reconciliation by Elder Holland and I realized that as we forgive others, we are literally taking part of the Atonement of Christ, extending His mercy to others as He extends it to us. This all teaches us how to be just like Him which is in the end the ultimate goal. Another cool thing about working for God is that He gives us glimpses of His perspective of us through little teaching experiences like these. I had the opportunity to ask for and also extend forgiveness to someone today and honestly I could hardly describe my gratitude for such a divine gift. I invite you all to seek to work something out with someone this week and feel the liberating power of Christ's Atonement.

Questa settimana è stata una settimana pazzesca, onestamente. Per cominciare, ho fatto uno scambio con un nuovo missionario, il che è stato stranissimo perché non lo facevo da quando avevo finito di addestrare Anziano Ferguson un anno fa. Abbiamo mangiato del fufu con il nostro amico nigeriano di Como 1, il che è stato molto divertente.

Sabato ho battezzato un'amica delle Sorelle di Lugano. È stato un grande onore perché non avevo battezzato nessuno da maggio. Inoltre era in Svizzera e questo ha reso la cosa ancora più bella. Poi abbiamo camminato per circa 3 miglia per attraversare il confine svizzero a piedi e portare un Libro di Mormon a un altro amico. Ho dovuto chiedere indicazioni a degli africani in francese, ma credo che le uniche parole che ho tirato fuori siano state "2" e "uomo". Però ha funzionato. Un ringraziamento al mese di francese che ho fatto in prima media. Comunque, abbiamo chiesto al nostro amico se voleva essere battezzato e lui ha detto di sì. Ha persino iniziato a citare il Libro di Mormon, non avendolo letteralmente mai letto, e l'intera lezione è stata pazzesca.

Domenica eravamo molto lontani dal nostro obiettivo di ricerca, ma grazie all'impegno con i metodi di ricerca online e letteralmente alla mano di Dio, abbiamo trovato 7 persone e abbiamo superato il nostro obiettivo per la settimana. Non siamo nemmeno usciti dall'appartamento per cercare contatti per strada, ma ci siamo limitati ai nostri telefoni e abbiamo fatto qualche chiamata. Il Signore ha provveduto ancora una volta.

Lunedì abbiamo avuto le interviste con gli Woods, ma siamo arrivati con due ore di ritardo a causa di un problema con i treni. Ieri abbiamo fatto un pranzo miracoloso con una famiglia del nostro rione. Sono stati battezzati a Napoli 50 anni fa e questa settimana abbiamo avuto la nuova coppia di missionari senior di Savona in visita a Como. Per caso uno di loro aveva servito a Napoli in quel periodo e questa famiglia ha scoperto che erano in città, così siamo stati invitati tutti a pranzo. Mentre la famiglia raccontava la storia di come aveva trovato la nostra chiesa, il missionario senior ha iniziato a ricordare gli eventi così come li aveva sentiti dagli altri missionari con cui aveva servito. Si è scoperto che lui era stato lì e che li aveva incontrati. È stato molto toccante vederli riuniti dopo 50 anni da un incontro casuale qui a Como. La cosa bella di lavorare per Dio è che Lui fa sì che cose come questa si realizzino in modo che si possano vedere i risultati del proprio duro lavoro nei modi più incredibili.

Pensiero spirituale!

Negli ultimi 6 anni ho riflettuto molto sul tema del perdono e della riconciliazione, quindi naturalmente è stato un tema ricorrente nella mia missione. Questa settimana stavo studiando Il ministero della riconciliazione dell'Anziano Holland e mi sono reso conto che quando perdoniamo gli altri, stiamo letteralmente prendendo parte all'Espiazione di Cristo, estendendo la Sua misericordia agli altri come Lui la estende a noi. Tutto questo ci insegna a essere proprio come Lui, che alla fine è l'obiettivo finale. Un'altra cosa bella del lavorare per Dio è che Egli ci fa intravedere la sua prospettiva su di noi attraverso piccole esperienze istruttive come queste. Oggi ho avuto l'opportunità di chiedere e anche di estendere il perdono a qualcuno e onestamente non riuscirei a descrivere la mia gratitudine per un dono così divino. Vi invito tutti a cercare di risolvere qualcosa con qualcuno questa settimana e a sentire il potere liberatorio dell'espiazione di Cristo.
