Week 74: Los Pollos Hermanos 🍗

This week was pretty normal, we've been pretty swamped doing stuff for the mission Facebook page because it's Christmastime and we totally didn't plan for it. We also had some really great lessons and some other not so great lessons. Through some discussions I've had this week though I've really come to understand what if means for doctrine to be "plain and precious." Yeah some concepts can be a little mind bending, but the fundamentals of the Doctrine of Christ and God's plan for us are pretty straightforward. God wants all of His children to be able to understand His mysteries, not just scholars and scriptorians. We also got to go visit our bishop and his family for dinner on Monday which was a lot of fun.

Yesterday we filmed a video with the district for the mission Facebook page. Some guy with a chainsaw kept chopping wood during Anziano Tanner's part and it was super annoying but it was pretty funny. After that I went with Anziano Moore to find for a bit and we met some really cool people. We met a couple from Boston of all places at the train station. I was able to teach them about the Book of Mormon which was cool. I think the fact that was from Massachusetts helped a lot, which just goes to show that God puts people in our path. We also found a guy who was taught by the missionaries a year ago, so once again, right time right place.

I've been thinking about this verse a lot the past few months and I got to it this week while reading my scriptures:

"Have ye walked, keeping yourselves blameless before God? Could ye say, if ye were called to die at this time, within yourselves, that ye have been sufficiently humble? That your garments have been cleansed and made white through the blood of Christ, who will come to redeem his people from their sins? Behold, are ye stripped of pride? I say unto you, if ye are not ye are not prepared to meet God. Behold ye must prepare quickly; for the kingdom of heaven is soon at hand, and such an one hath not eternal life." Alma 5:27-28

We often talk about the mission being a microcosm for life, where you "die" when you finish your mission and go home. The Sorelle in my MTC group finish their mission this Monday which is weird, and it got me reflecting on if I would have felt ready to finish if I'd been in their place. It's easy to go through the motions in life and in the mission but that'll rarely get you to a point where you're satisfied. I personally don't feel ready to go home and so I'm excited that I have 8 more months to learn and grow. I invite you all to reflect on this scripture as well this week as well so you don't miss the opportunities God has given you.

TRADUZIONE IN ITALIANO

Questa settimana è stata abbastanza normale, siamo stati molto occupati a fare cose per la pagina di Facebook della missione perché è Natale e non l'avevamo proprio pianificato. Abbiamo anche fatto delle lezioni molto belle e altre meno belle. Attraverso alcune discussioni che ho avuto questa settimana, però, sono arrivato a capire cosa significa che la dottrina deve essere "semplice e preziosa". Sì, alcuni concetti possono essere un po' complicati, ma i fondamenti della dottrina di Cristo e del piano di Dio per noi sono piuttosto semplici. Dio vuole che tutti i suoi figli siano in grado di comprendere i suoi misteri, non solo gli studiosi e gli esperti di scritture. Lunedì siamo anche andati a cena dal nostro vescovo e dalla sua famiglia, il che è stato molto divertente.

Ieri abbiamo girato un video con il distretto per la pagina Facebook della missione. Un tizio con una sega elettrica continuava a tagliare la legna durante la parte di Anziano Tanner ed era molto fastidioso, ma anche abbastanza divertente. Dopo di che sono andato con Anziano Moore a cercare un po' di gente e abbiamo incontrato delle persone davvero in gamba. Abbiamo incontrato una coppia di Boston alla stazione ferroviaria. Ho potuto parlare loro del Libro di Mormon, il che è stato bello. Penso che il fatto che venissero dal Massachusetts abbia aiutato molto, il che dimostra che Dio mette le persone sul nostro cammino. Abbiamo anche trovato un ragazzo a cui i missionari avevano insegnato un anno fa, quindi, ancora una volta, il momento giusto al posto giusto.

Ho pensato molto a questo versetto negli ultimi mesi e l'ho ripreso questa settimana leggendo le mie Scritture:

" Avete camminato mantenendovi senza biasimo dinanzi a Dio? Potreste dire in cuor vostro, se foste chiamati a morire in questo momento, che siete stati sufficientemente umili? Che le vostre vesti sono state pulite e rese bianche mediante il sangue di Cristo, che verrà a redimere il suo popolo dai suoi peccati?

Ecco, vi siete spogliati dell’orgoglio? Io vi dico, se non lo siete, non siete preparati a incontrare Iddio. Ecco, dovete prepararvi rapidamente; poiché il regno dei cieli è presto alla porta, e una persona simile non avrà la vita eterna.". Alma 5:27-28

Spesso parliamo del fatto che la missione è un microcosmo della vita, dove si "muore" quando si finisce la missione e si torna a casa. Le Sorelle del mio gruppo dell'MTC finiscono la loro missione questo lunedì, il che è strano, e mi ha fatto domandare se mi sentissi pronto a finire se fossi stato al loro posto. È facile andare per tentativi nella vita e nella missione, ma raramente si arriva a un punto in cui si è soddisfatti. Personalmente non mi sento pronto a tornare a casa e sono entusiasta di avere altri 8 mesi per imparare e crescere. Invito anche tutti voi a riflettere su questa Scrittura questa settimana, per non perdere le opportunità che Dio vi ha dato.
