Week 70: Walking Across Como On My Own, Twice

This was a very bizarre week. On Thursday and Friday I had exchanges but both days something went wrong with the trains. The first day I had to walk across Como between two of the stations to see if the other Anziano was there. Luckily he was and everything was fine. The day after, the next Anziano coming in got caught in a metro strike in Milano but since he was traveling without internet I had no idea. I walked to the other station again thinking he'd also gone to the wrong one, but he wasn't there. After an hour and a half of looking for him in all four corners of Como I just gave up and went home. Luckily he showed up at the front door 15 minutes later and told me about the train mess he got caught up in.

On Saturday we went to two baptisms and that's pretty much all we had time for that day. One was in the other Como ward and one was in Lugano. We accidentally almost got there late because we thought traveling there would be quick but things really just didn't line up and it took forever to get up. Traveling to Switzerland is honestly such a pain because the train system is different. Anyway, both baptisms were super awesome. It's really special being the District Leader because I get to interview everyone for their baptism before so it's nice to play a role in their baptism and get to know them as well.

On Monday we got transfer calls while doing a service project up in the mountains. So apparently Anziano Greene is going to Pisa and I'm getting Anziano Barnes. That was a surprise because we both expected to stay together, but it'll be good regardless. I'm excited.

Also to say we've been getting creative with our food this week would be an understatement. Pictures below.

Spiritual thought!

I've been plowing through the books of the Teachings of Presidents of the Church and am currently on Joseph Fielding Smith. In one chapter, he talked about why it's sometimes hard to live gospel laws in mortality. In short, it's because we live in a telestial (imperfect) world trying to live celestial (divine) laws. In this world we're constantly fighting Satan's gravitational pull and so it's hard to rise above our natural tendencies sometimes. However, there will be a day where we will live in a celestial world with God so it's our job to prepare ourselves now and be the people ready to live in His presence. TRADUZIONE IN ITALIANO

È stata una settimana molto bizzarra. Giovedì e venerdì ho avuto degli scambi, ma in entrambi i giorni qualcosa è andato storto con i treni. Il primo giorno ho dovuto attraversare Como a piedi tra due stazioni per vedere se l'altro Anziano fosse lì. Fortunatamente c'era e tutto è andato bene. Il giorno dopo, l'altro Anziano in arrivo è rimasto coinvolto in uno sciopero della metropolitana a Milano, ma poiché viaggiava senza internet non ne avevo idea. Mi sono recato di nuovo all'altra stazione pensando che fosse andato in quella sbagliata, ma non c'era. Dopo un'ora e mezza di ricerche in tutta Como, mi sono arreso e sono tornato a casa. Per fortuna si è presentato alla porta di casa un quarto d'ora dopo e mi ha raccontato del pasticcio ferroviario in cui era rimasto coinvolto.

Sabato abbiamo assistito a due battesimi e quello ha preso tutto il tempo di quella giornata. Uno era nell'altro rione di Como e uno a Lugano. Siamo quasi arrivati in ritardo perché pensavamo che non ci sarebbe voluto molto per arrivare lì, ma le cose non sono andate così. Viaggiare in Svizzera è onestamente complicato perché il sistema ferroviario è diverso. Comunque, entrambi i battesimi sono stati fantastici. È davvero speciale essere il Capo Distretto perché devo fare io le interviste battesimali di coloro che si battezzano e quindi è bello prendere parte al loro battesimo e conoscerli meglio.

Lunedì abbiamo ricevuto le chiamate dei trasferimenti mentre facevamo un progetto di servizio in montagna. A quanto pare Anziano Greene andrà a Pisa e a me toccherà Anziano Barnes. È stata una sorpresa perché entrambi ci aspettavamo di rimanere insieme, ma sarà bello comunque. Sono emozionato.

Inoltre, dire che questa settimana siamo stati creativi con il cibo sarebbe un eufemismo. Le foto sono qui sotto.

Ho spulciato i libri degli Insegnamenti dei Presidenti della Chiesa e attualmente sono a Joseph Fielding Smith. In un capitolo ha parlato del perché a volte è difficile vivere le leggi del Vangelo nella mortalità. In breve, è perché viviamo in un mondo teleste (imperfetto) cercando di vivere le leggi celesti (divine). In questo mondo siamo costantemente in lotta con l'attrazione gravitazionale di Satana e quindi a volte è difficile elevarsi al di sopra delle nostre tendenze naturali. Tuttavia, ci sarà un giorno in cui vivremo in un mondo celeste con Dio, quindi è nostro compito prepararci ora ed essere le persone pronte a vivere alla Sua presenza.
