Week 52: Leaving Italy

That's right we left Italy today. I know what you're probably thinking, first the Milan mission, now the country? Well yes but this time we stayed within the mission boundaries. Our mission has this little city state near Rimini named San Marino, which is this cool mountain city so we went and visit that today. It's technically its own country like the Vatican but it's just right smack in the middle of Italy.

This week we built a new baptismal font which was sick, got caught in another thunderstorm, taught our Venezuelan friend some English, went up to Bologna for interviews with our mission president, and then hit a few exchanges. We also spent half an hour trying to find our friend because they sent us a live location tracker on whatsapp. We ended up going around the city in the car and doing numerous three point turns to get back on the right street.

My first exchange was with Anziano Bacon in Ravenna. We found a girl who used to be taught when there were Sorelle in Ravenna almost a year ago. My second exchange was again in Ravenna so I drove four hours to get back there and this time go finding with Anziano Mason. We met someone from Egypt and I just so happened to have an Arabic Book of Mormon with me so I gave it to her. We also found a guy in the middle of nowhere who'd gotten baptized a while back so we're hoping to get him back in church soon.

Spiritual thought!

This one comes from the Bible in Luke 24:32 "And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?" It's important to remember spiritual experiences and how we felt in those instances. Those things help root us in our testimonies when things get hard and doubt sets in. We're not always going to be on a spiritual high, but we can always ask ourselves "did not our heart burn within us in the past?" when maybe you're not feeling it in the moment. That's how we demonstrate faith in what God has already revealed to us, and when we do this He can trust us to reveal more.

Proprio così, oggi abbiamo lasciato l'Italia. So cosa state pensando, prima la missione di Milano, ora il Paese? Beh, sì, ma questa volta siamo rimasti entro i confini della missione. La nostra missione ha una piccola città-stato vicino a Rimini, San Marino, che è una bella città di montagna, e oggi siamo andati a visitarla. Tecnicamente è un Paese a sé stante, come il Vaticano, ma è proprio nel mezzo dell'Italia.

Questa settimana abbiamo costruito un nuovo fonte battesimale il che è stato fortissimo, siamo stati sorpresi da un altro temporale, abbiamo insegnato a un nostro amico venezuelano un po' di inglese, siamo andati a Bologna per le interviste con il nostro presidente di missione e poi abbiamo fatto qualche scambio. Abbiamo anche passato mezz'ora a cercare un nostro amico perché ci era stato inviato un localizzatore in diretta su whatsapp. Abbiamo finito per girare per la città in macchina e fare numerose inversioni di marcia per tornare sulla strada giusta.

Il mio primo scambio è stato con Anziano Bacon a Ravenna. Abbiamo trovato una ragazza che ha preso delle lezioni quando c'erano le Sorelle a Ravenna quasi un anno fa. Il mio secondo scambio è stato di nuovo a Ravenna, così ho guidato quattro ore per tornare lì e questa volta sono andato in giro con Anziano Mason. Abbiamo incontrato una persona proveniente dall'Egitto e per caso avevo con me un Libro di Mormon in arabo, così gliel'ho dato. Abbiamo anche trovato inaspettatamente un ragazzo che si è battezzato qualche tempo fa, quindi speriamo di riportarlo presto in chiesa.

Pensiero spirituale!

Questo si trova nella Bibbia in Luca 24:32: "Ed essi dissero l’uno all’altro: Non ardeva il cuor nostro in noi mentr’egli ci parlava per la via, mentre ci spiegava le Scritture?". È importante ricordare le esperienze spirituali e come ci siamo sentiti in quelle circostanze. Queste cose ci aiutano a radicarci nella nostra testimonianza quando le cose diventano difficili e si insinua il dubbio. Non saremo sempre al massimo dal punto di vista spirituale, ma possiamo sempre chiederci: "Il nostro cuore non ardeva dentro di noi in passato?", quando magari non lo sentiamo in quel momento. È così che dimostriamo di avere fede in ciò che Dio ci ha già rivelato, e quando lo facciamo Lui può fidarsi di noi per rivelarci di più.
