Week 48: Fueled by the Lord, Rejection, and Sausage and Potatoes

Ancona is wack. It's a good city and reminds me a lot of the south of Italy but it's way smaller than Bergamo. We were street contacting Thursday night and ran into like at least 5 people we knew.

For service this week we helped one of our friends move which was pretty fun. We also tried taking down the janky baptismal font we have (we don't have one built into the church like most churches, this one's more of a little tub we have to put together) but we ended up just spilling water everywhere inside.

We had some pretty cool experiences finding this week and saw some cool miracles. We had some good success with sim finding again (when you just go through the hundreds of old contacts on the area phone and call them), so much so that they asked me to talk to the whole mission about it for the second week in a row. It was interesting because it was an exact repeat of what we did last week in Bergamo. Later that week, we saw a bunch of people sitting in a little square in the city so I picked out one lady to talk to. Right then, her little kid threw me his soccer ball and we started passing it a bit. It helped start a conversation very naturally with the mom and it turned out she was actually interested in learning more.

This week I drove for the first time in almost a year and it was for a nice little road trip to the other side of our area. Thankfully it all came back to me within 15 minutes.

Yesterday we had a big finding session in Pesaro. It was very hot and empty so Anziano Wallace and I tried finding a grocery store to get water at. We got lost but in the process found two really awesome people and a family at a bus stop.

Spiritual thought!

"But as oft as they repented and sought forgiveness, with real intent, they were forgiven." Moroni 6:8

Brigham Young, the second prophet of our church, taught that when we come to learn that something is wrong, we are accountable for no longer doing that thing. However sometimes we mess up and do that thing anyway. What we learn here from this verse in Moroni is that Heavenly Father is always willing to forgive us as long as we commit to doing our best, even if our best is not very good. I'm very grateful for this aspect of the Gospel where we know that we are never too far gone to turn around and make things right. It's more than just an abstract hope but rather a hope that is based on our knowledge and relationship with Jesus Christ.

Anziano Kitchen and I got matching Lidl bathing suits today (don't worry we didn't go swimming, that's against the rules) for all the BYU pool parties we're going to go to / Oggi io e Anziano Kitchen abbiamo preso i costumi da bagno abbinati della Lidl (non preoccupatevi, non siamo andati a nuotare, è contro le regole) per tutte le feste in piscina a cui andremo a BYU.

Ancona è una città strana. È una bella città e mi ricorda molto il sud Italia, ma è molto più piccola di Bergamo. Giovedì sera abbiamo contattato per strada e abbiamo incontrato almeno 5 persone che conoscevamo.

Come servizio questa settimana abbiamo aiutato uno dei nostri amici a traslocare, il che è stato piuttosto divertente. Abbiamo anche provato a smontare il fonte battesimale portatile che abbiamo (non ne abbiamo uno che sia costruito in chiesa come nella maggior parte delle cappelle, questa è più una piccola vasca che dobbiamo montare), ma abbiamo finito per rovesciare l'acqua dappertutto.

Questa settimana abbiamo avuto alcune esperienze molto belle mentre cercavamo dei contatti e abbiamo visto alcuni miracoli. Abbiamo avuto di nuovo un buon successo con il ritrovamento di sim (quando si cerca tra le centinaia di vecchi contatti sul telefono di zona e li si chiama), tanto che mi hanno chiesto di parlarne a tutta la missione per la seconda settimana consecutiva. È stato interessante perché è stata un'esatta ripetizione di ciò che abbiamo fatto la settimana scorsa a Bergamo. Più tardi, quella settimana, abbiamo visto un gruppo di persone sedute in una piazzetta della città, così mi sono rivolto ad una signora per parlarle. Proprio in quel momento, il suo bambino mi ha lanciato il pallone e abbiamo iniziato a passarcelo un po'. Questo ha contribuito ad avviare una conversazione molto naturalmente con la mamma ed è venuto fuori che era davvero interessata a saperne di più.

Questa settimana ho guidato per la prima volta dopo quasi un anno ed è stato per un piccolo viaggio in macchina dall'altra parte della nostra zona. Per fortuna mi è tornato tutto in mente nel giro di 15 minuti.

Ieri abbiamo fatto una grande attività di ricerca a Pesaro. Faceva molto caldo e non c'era nessuno, così io e Anziano Wallace abbiamo cercato un negozio di alimentari dove prendere l'acqua. Ci siamo persi, ma nel frattempo abbiamo trovato due persone fantastiche e una famiglia alla fermata dell'autobus.

Un pensiero spirituale!

"Ma ogni volta che si pentivano e chiedevano perdono, con intento reale, erano perdonati.". Moroni 6:8

Brigham Young, il secondo profeta della nostra Chiesa, ha insegnato che quando impariamo che qualcosa è sbagliata, siamo responsabili di non farla più. Tuttavia, a volte commettiamo degli errori e la facciamo comunque. Ciò che impariamo da questo versetto di Moroni è che il Padre Celeste è sempre disposto a perdonarci, purché ci impegniamo a fare del nostro meglio, anche se il nostro meglio non è tanto buono. Sono molto grato per questo aspetto del Vangelo, grazie al quale sappiamo che non siamo mai troppo lontani per poter tornare indietro e sistemare le cose. Non si tratta di una speranza astratta, ma piuttosto di una speranza che si basa sulla nostra conoscenza e sul nostro rapporto con Gesù Cristo.
