Week 46: Breaking Every Microwave

Our microwave stopped working this week which was quite unfortunate. We're going to get it replaced this week which is kinda funny because the one I had in Firenze also broke while I was there.

We took a really early train to Verona Saturday morning to see a baptism but it got cancelled literally at the last second. We ended up just staying in Verona for lunch and then doing some group studying on some random bench. A very nice adventure for sure.

On Sunday we had our friend get baptized! She's been waiting to get baptized for two years but there's been so much opposition and problems that have come up until now. It was really cool to see her stick it out until the end and not give up hope!

On Monday mornings everyone in the mission goes finding from 9:30 to 11:30. One of the first people we talked to on the street only spoke Spanish, so Anziano Northrup turned around to me and said "hit it." For the record I only study Spanish for the Duolingo streak but somehow through the gift of tongues I manages to tell her we were missionaries and give a brief explanation of the Book of Mormon. It wasn't pretty but we were able to get her number to schedule a follow up appointment. As Elder Cook said this past conference, difficult situations stretch us and put us on the spot and help grow our faith.

Goals should be designed to stretch us and help us grow while also giving us direction. If we don't set goals for ourselves we kinda just wander and hope that we can accomplish things along the way. When we set a good goal, we can really take advantage of the opportunities we are given. This week we set a lofty goal to find 14 people (for reference we get like 3 pr 4 on average) so I encourage you all to set a goal that will make you stretch!

Questa settimana il nostro microonde ha smesso di funzionare, il che è stato piuttosto spiacevole. Lo faremo sostituire questa settimana, e mi fa sorridere il fatto che anche quello che avevo a Firenze si è rotto mentre ero lì.

Sabato mattina abbiamo preso un treno molto presto per Verona per andare a vedere un battesimo, che è stato cancellato letteralmente all'ultimo secondo. Alla fine siamo rimasti a Verona a pranzo e poi abbiamo studiato in gruppo su una panchina. È stata sicuramente una bella avventura.

Domenica abbiamo fatto battezzare una nostra amica! Ha aspettato due anni per essere battezzata, ma si sono presentati così tanti ostacoli e problemi fino ad ora! È stato davvero bello vederla resistere fino alla fine e non perdere la speranza!

Ogni lunedì mattina tutti i missionari della missione vanno a cercare le persone dalle 9:30 alle 11:30. Una delle prime persone con cui abbiamo parlato per strada parlava solo spagnolo, così Anziano Northrup si è girato verso di me e mi ha detto "Dacci dentro". Per la cronaca, studio lo spagnolo solo per la continuità di Duolingo, ma in qualche modo, grazie al dono delle lingue, sono riuscito a dirle che eravamo missionari e a darle una breve spiegazione del Libro di Mormon. Non è stato bello, ma siamo riusciti a ottenere il suo numero per fissare un appuntamento successivo. Come ha detto l'anziano Cook alla scorsa conferenza, le situazioni difficili ci mettono alla prova e ci inducono ad aumentare la nostra fede.

Gli obiettivi devono essere concepiti in modo tale da stimolarci e aiutarci a crescere, dandoci allo stesso tempo una direttiva. Se non fissiamo degli obiettivi per noi stessi, ci limitiamo a vagare e a sperare di poter realizzare qualcosa lungo la strada. Quando fissiamo un buon obiettivo, possiamo davvero sfruttare le opportunità che ci vengono offerte. Questa settimana ci siamo prefissati l'obiettivo di trovare 14 persone (in media ne troviamo 3 o 4), quindi vi incoraggio a porvi un obiettivo che vi metta alla prova!
