Week 35: Firenze 2

I'm putting my spiritual thought here first because I want everyone to see it.

First a little backstory: this Monday Presidente Wood announced to the entire mission that they're going to split the Firenze ward into two wards. I almost fell out of my chair. They also put SIX missionaries in Firenze, which is the most missionaries in the whole mission that cover one area. Firenze 2 a big deal because there were not nearly enough members in Firenze to do that when I got there or even when I left 6 weeks ago. Honestly I never though I'd see the day when Firenze 2 would become a reality. The work there was really hard when I was there and it felt like we were never going to see success. However, the missionaries who are there now have really been going crazy baptizing a lot of the people I found and taught with Anziano Willis and Anziano Ferguson which has been so awesome to see. A scripture came to mind when I heard about this: "But if ye will nourish the word, yea, nourish the tree as it beginneth to grow, by your faith with great diligence, and with patience, looking forward to the fruit thereof, it shall take root; and behold it shall be a tree springing up unto everlasting life." (Alma 32:41). Sometimes you need to be patient in work and just keep your head down regardless of how much success you're seeing or not seeing. If you're patient enough, the success will come. It might not be in the way you expected or as quick as you wanted, but I want to give a PSA to all you missionaries out there that all the seeds you plant are not in vain but will eventually grow into something amazing. God has a plan.

I want all two of you who served in Firenze to know how incredibly proud I am of you ⚜️

A few other things this week:

-Had my first Bible bash pretty much. The person we were trying to teach kept asking us really deep doctrinal questions and getting upset when we didn't know the answers. They also kept testing our knowledge by seeing how many scriptures we had memorized. Sorry but I can't barely remember what I had for breakfast this morning. The Spirit is the real scholar not me, but the Spirit was for sure absent during that lesson.

-We got another friend on baptismal date this week so that puts us at 3! This transfer is going to go crazy.

-We had a really funny lesson with one of our friends. He's an older man and his friend came in and basically started getting taught by the guy we had just taught. They also started arguing and making jokes and it was so funny to watch these two old Italian men start going at each other for an hour.

-We helped someone move but we had a lesson right before so we did the move in shirts and ties.

-We had 13+ friends come to church this week! The members started inviting tons of people which is super awesome! In other areas we sometimes struggle to get 1 or 2 friends to come.

-I was making pasta sauce when our jenky pot lid broke and the screws fell into the sauce.

-I got a new companion! His name is Anziano Northrup and he just came from Alessandria. We're both so stoked to get this transfer going. We're gonna put Bergamo on the map.

Metto qui per primo il mio pensiero spirituale perché voglio che tutti lo vedano.

Prima un piccolo retroscena: questo lunedì il Presidente Wood ha annunciato a tutta la missione che divideranno il rione Firenze in due rioni. Sono quasi caduto dalla sedia. Hanno anche messo SEI missionari a Firenze, che è il maggior numero di missionari in tutta la missione che coprono la stessa area. Firenze 2 è stato una grossa cosa, perché non c'erano abbastanza membri a Firenze per fare una cosa del genere quando sono arrivato io e nemmeno quando me ne sono andato 6 settimane fa. Onestamente non avrei mai pensato di vedere il giorno in cui Firenze 2 sarebbe diventata una realtà. Il lavoro era molto duro quando ero lì e sembrava che non avremmo mai avuto successo. Tuttavia, i missionari che si trovano lì ora hanno fatto cose incredibili, battezzando molte delle persone che ho trovato e a cui ho insegnato con Anziano Willis e Anziano Ferguson, il che è stato davvero fantastico da vedere. Quando ho sentito parlare di questo, mi è venuta in mente una Scrittura: "Ma se nutrirete la parola, sì, se nutrirete l’albero mentre comincia a crescere, mediante la vostra fede, con grande diligenza e con pazienza, attendendone il frutto, esso prenderà radice; ed ecco, sarà un albero che crescerà fino alla vita eterna.". (Alma 32:41). A volte è necessario essere pazienti nel lavoro e tenere la testa bassa, indipendentemente dal successo che si vede o meno. Se siete abbastanza pazienti, il successo arriverà. Potrebbe non essere nel modo in cui vi aspettavate o con la rapidità che volevate, ma voglio dire a tutti voi missionari là fuori: tutti i semi che piantate non sono vani, ma alla fine cresceranno in qualcosa di straordinario. Dio ha un piano.

Voglio che tutti e due voi che avete servito a Firenze sappiate quanto sono incredibilmente orgoglioso di voi ⚜️.

Alcune altre cose di questa settimana:

-Ho avuto il mio primo scontro sulla Bibbia. La persona a cui stavamo cercando di insegnare continuava a farci domande dottrinali molto profonde e si arrabbiava quando non sapevamo le risposte. Ha anche continuato a mettere alla prova la nostra conoscenza vedendo quanti passi scritturali avevamo memorizzato. Mi dispiace, ma riesco a malapena a ricordare cosa ho mangiato a colazione questa mattina. Lo Spirito è il vero esperto, non io, ma lo Spirito era sicuramente assente durante la lezione.

-Questa settimana abbiamo un altro amico con una data battesimale, quindi siamo a tre! Questo trasferimento diventerà pazzesco.

-Abbiamo fatto una lezione molto divertente a uno dei nostri amici. È un uomo anziano e quando un suo amico è arrivato , ha iniziato a insegnare a lui le cose che gli avevamo appena insegnato. Hanno anche iniziato a discutere e a fare battute ed è stato così divertente vedere questi due uomini anziani italiani che si controbattevano per un'ora.

-Abbiamo aiutato qualcuno a traslocare, ma abbiamo fatto una lezione subito prima, quindi abbiamo fatto il trasloco in camicia e cravatta.

-Questa settimana sono venuti in chiesa più di 13 amici! I membri hanno iniziato a invitare un mucchio di persone, il che è super fantastico! In altre zone a volte facciamo fatica a far venire 1 o 2 amici.

-Stavo facendo il sugo per la pasta quando il coperchio della nostra pentola si è rotto e le viti sono cadute nel sugo.

-Ho un nuovo collega! Si chiama Anziano Northrup ed è appena arrivato da Alessandria. Siamo entrambi entusiasti di iniziare questo trasferimento. Renderemo Bergamo famosa.
