Week 34: Bartholomew's Beans

We have a ton of canned beans and tuna in our apartment that no one wanted so when our Zone Leader Anziano Bartholomew came over he ate all of it. Who knows how long they'd been there though because he suffered a bit the rest of the day because of them.

This week has been very normal aside from the fact that I got horrendously sick yet again after being healed for maybe 24 hours after my last sickness. So basically I've been sick for three weeks and counting. Also this time was probably the sickest I've been sick since junior year of high school.

A few things of good news though:

-We managed to put two people on date for baptism in the same night 🥳🥳

-We had two sacrament meetings on Sunday because one was just for the YSA. I got to meet some of the young adults from nearby cities which was fun.

-Our boy Matheus got set apart as a missionary so he came to our district council just for kicks. He was going to do some work with us for most of the day but then he had to leave earlier than expected so that was short lived. I let him borrow my pocket tag since he hasn't gotten his yet but then I almost forgot to get it back from him. That would've been bad since it's my only one and I use it every day.

-Another one of my friends from Firenze got baptized this week which was super awesome! We'd been working with her since October and there was always some little problem getting in her way so we're all super happy that she made it there in the end.

That's about it for this week. Once again nothing too crazy happened.

Spiritual thought! Being sick this week I thought a bit about these verses in Alma 7:11-12 "And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people. / And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities." A lot of times we focus on the role of the Atonement as one that simply cleanses us from sin because Jesus Christ suffered the demands of justice in our place. However, these verses specify too that he also suffered all of our pains, sicknesses, grief, sorrow, anger, disappointment, depression, and literally every other bad and unjust thing. He did this so he could extend true empathy to us amid our trials. There is power in empathy and through that power we can receive meaningful comfort through the Holy Ghost because Christ truly knows exactly what we feel when life goes wrong.

TRADUZIONE IN ITALIANO

Nel nostro appartamento abbiamo una tonnellata di fagioli e tonno in scatola che nessuno voleva, così quando è arrivato il nostro Capo Zona Anziano Bartholomew li ha mangiati tutti. Chissà da quanto tempo erano lì, però, perché ha sofferto un po' per il resto della giornata.

Questa settimana è stata molto normale, a parte il fatto che mi sono ammalato di nuovo, dopo essere guarito per circa 24 ore dall'ultimo malore. Quindi in pratica sono stato malato per oltre tre settimane. Inoltre, questa volta è stata probabilmente quella in cui sono stato più male da quando frequentavo il terzo anno di liceo.

Ci sono però alcune buone notizie:

-Siamo riusciti a fissare due appuntamenti per il battesimo nella stessa sera 🥳🥳🥳

-Siamo andati a due riunioni sacramentali domenica, perché una era solo per i GANS (Giovani Adulti Non Sposati). Ho avuto modo di conoscere alcuni giovani adulti delle città vicine, il che è stato divertente.

-Il nostro ragazzo Matheus è stato messo a parte come missionario e quindi è venuto al nostro consiglio di distretto solo per provare. Avrebbe dovuto lavorare con noi per la maggior parte della giornata, ma poi è dovuto partire prima del previsto, quindi la cosa è durata poco. Gli ho prestato la mia targhetta da taschino visto che non aveva ancora ricevuto la sua, ma poi mi sono quasi dimenticato di farmela restituire. Sarebbe stato brutto, visto che è la mia unica e la uso tutti i giorni.

-Un'altra delle mie amiche di Firenze si è battezzata questa settimana ed è stato fantastico! Stavamo lavorando con lei da ottobre e c'era sempre qualche piccolo problema che la ostacolava, quindi siamo tutti super felici che alla fine ce l'abbia fatta.

Questo è tutto per questa settimana. Ancora una volta non è successo nulla di pazzesco.

Pensiero spirituale! Essendo malato questa settimana ho pensato un po' a questi versetti in Alma 7:11-12: "Ed egli andrà, soffrendo pene e afflizioni e tentazioni di ogni specie; e ciò affinché si possa adempiere la parola che dice: egli prenderà su di sé le pene e le malattie del suo popolo./ E prenderà su di sé la morte, per poter sciogliere i legami della morte che legano il suo popolo; e prenderà su di sé le loro infermità, affinché le sue viscere possano essere piene di misericordia, secondo la carne, affinché egli possa conoscere, secondo la carne, come soccorrere il suo popolo nelle loro infermità.". Molte volte ci si concentra sul ruolo dell'Espiazione come un ruolo che semplicemente ci purifica dal peccato perché Gesù Cristo ha sofferto le esigenze della giustizia al posto nostro. Tuttavia, questi versetti specificano anche che egli ha sofferto anche tutti i nostri dolori, le nostre malattie, le nostre afflizioni, i nostri dispiaceri, la nostra rabbia, le nostre delusioni, la nostra depressione e letteralmente ogni altra cosa brutta e ingiusta. Lo ha fatto per poter estendere la vera empatia a noi in mezzo alle nostre prove. L'empatia ha un potere e grazie ad essa possiamo ricevere un conforto significativo attraverso lo Spirito Santo, perché Cristo sa esattamente cosa proviamo quando la vita va male.
