Week 18: The Return of the Curse of Botas Blancas

Hey everyone!

Man being a trainer is wild. Sometimes I feel like I've already grown so much more confident as a missionary and other times I stare at my daily planner and have no clue what to plan for. Oh well I have 11 more weeks to figure that out I guess.

Small summary of the week:

-Spent an inordinate amount of time at church calling people and cleaning up our contacts in area book. Mentally draining but it needs to get done.

-We ALMOST got two people on baptismal date on the first day of the transfer. Kinda crazy. Things are about to blow up here in Firenze.

-I taught our English course for the first time and that was kinda wild.

-One guy we are teaching bought us like 70 euro of groceries so we're set for a while now.

-Had a doctor appointment for a check-up (don't worry, I'm fine) and it was kinda weird trying to figure out how the medical world in Italy works. After I went to pay they told me the appointment was cancelled (even though I'd already had it), so after some phone calls they just told me I was all set on payment and I could go. Totally weird but I'm still alive so that's what matters.

-Because of the doctor appointment we were like two hours late to district council. The bus didn't stop for us so we had to chase it yet again.

-Yesterday we went on an adventure to Firenze Rovezzano and tried to visit a few people.

-Today we had the whole zone come to Firenze and we showed the new missionaries the way of Leo and Tucci so we can all be the most fashionable missionaries in Italy.

That's about it really. Nothing too crazy. Mostly just a grind to be honest but next week is going to be fun.

Spiritual thought!

In a video we watched this week about service, one of the people in it said that healing our souls can't happen if we solely turn inward. It's turning outward and helping others that heals us in that sense. This reminds me of Matthew 16:25 "For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it." If we turn outward, we can feel the love of Christ for others as we serve them. It gives us purpose knowing we have helped that person and as King Benjamin said in Mosiah 2:17 "when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God." I know that when we serve others we can receive numerous blessings because God will recognize that sacrifice we give to do so. Serving a mission is a huge example of this, but your sacrifice doesn't need to be that big. So go bless someone's life this week! Go out of your way to help someone even if it's simple. It also might not be easy but it's always worth it.

Carbonara pizza, basically bacon and eggs. They've got some wild pizzas here./Pizza alla carbonara, in pratica uova e pancetta. Qui ci sono delle pizze pazzesche.

I tried to pan fry French fries. It didn't really work./Ho provato a friggere le patatine in padella. Non ha funzionato.

Ciao a tutti!

Essere istruttore di un nuovo missionario è una cosa pazzesca. A volte mi sento come se fossi già cresciuto molto di più come missionario e altre volte fisso la mia agenda giornaliera e non ho idea di cosa pianificare. Oh beh, ho altre 11 settimane per capirlo, credo.

Piccolo riassunto della settimana:

-Ho passato una quantità spropositata di tempo in chiesa a chiamare persone e ad aggiornare i nostri contatti nell'agenda della zona. Mi ha stancato mentalmente, ma deve essere fatto.

-Abbiamo quasi avuto 2 persone con una data battesimale il primo giorno del trasferimento. Un po' incredibile. Le cose stanno per succedere qui a Firenze.

-Ho insegnato al nostro corso di inglese per la prima volta ed è stato piuttosto pazzesco.

-Un ragazzo a cui insegniamo ci ha comprato 70 euro di spesa, quindi siamo a posto per un po'.

-Ho avuto un appuntamento dal medico per un controllo (non preoccupatevi, sto bene) ed è stato un po' strano cercare di capire come funziona il mondo della sanità in Italia. Dopo essere andato a pagare mi hanno detto che l'appuntamento era stato cancellato (anche se l'avevo già fatto), quindi dopo alcune telefonate mi hanno detto che il pagamento era a posto e che potevo andare. È stato molto strano, ma sono ancora vivo e questo è ciò che conta.

-A causa dell'appuntamento con il medico siamo arrivati con due ore di ritardo al consiglio di distretto. L'autobus non si è fermato per noi e abbiamo dovuto inseguirlo ancora una volta.

-Ieri ci siamo avventurati a Firenze Rovezzano e abbiamo cercato di andare a trovare alcune persone.

-Oggi abbiamo fatto venire tutta la zona a Firenze e abbiamo mostrato ai nuovi missionari lo stile di Leo e Tucci, in modo da poter essere tutti i missionari più alla moda d'Italia.

Questo è tutto. Nulla di troppo sconvolgente. Per lo più è stato un lavoro di routine, ma la prossima settimana sarà divertente.

Pensiero spirituale!

In un video che abbiamo visto questa settimana sul servizio, una delle persone ha detto che la guarigione della nostra anima non può avvenire se ci rivolgiamo solo all'interno. È rivolgerci all'esterno e aiutare gli altri che ci guarisce in questo senso. Questo mi ricorda Matteo 16:25: "Perché chi vorrà salvare la sua vita, la perderà; ma chi avrà perduto la sua vita per amor mio, la troverà.". Se ci rivolgiamo all'esterno, possiamo sentire l'amore di Cristo per gli altri mentre li serviamo. Ci dà uno scopo sapere che abbiamo aiutato quella persona e, come disse re Beniamino in Mosia 2:17, "quando siete al servizio dei vostri simili, voi non siete che al servizio del vostro Dio." So che quando serviamo gli altri possiamo ricevere numerose benedizioni perché Dio riconosce il sacrificio che facciamo per farlo. Servire una missione è un esempio enorme di questo, ma non è necessario che il vostro sacrificio sia così grande. Quindi questa settimana benedite la vita di qualcuno! Fate di tutto per aiutare qualcuno, anche se semplicemente. Potrebbe anche non essere facile, ma ne vale sempre la pena.
