Week 12: Pear Juice

Hello!
Another week down, another high school Chick-fil-A paycheck out the window. Don't be like me. At least our zone is more fashionable than Bologna zone.
This week was pretty slow partially because we had General Conference (but don't be fooled, it was sick). General Conference is when the prophets and leaders of our church speak and it's broadcast all over the world. It's pretty awesome and the hype as a missionary was unreal. Go watch it if you wanna hear from a modern prophet of God. I don't know about you but that sounds pretty epic to me (spoiler: it is).
A few other things from this week:
-We started teaching a Catholic priest. It's been a wild experience but he likes meeting with us.
-We forced the Sorelle to drink pear juice. Sorella Hurst was not thrilled. Video:
-We had a karaoke night with the Young Single Adults in our ward. There were some amazing performances.
-I made a nutella cake in a pot for district council. Converting everything from US customary when everything here is measured in grams is an absolute nightmare.
MIRACLE: We were feeling pretty low last night because we'd been out for three hours and no one had talked to us. We were so sad that we stopped to eat our feelings away at McDonalds. BUT we finally found this kid named Diego and he agreed to meet again so that was awesome. BUT WAIT, after we left, he called out to us from down the road so he could make sure we had the right number. It turned out his phone number was wrong in our contacts so he fixed it. We wouldn't have been able to contact him again if he hadn't been prompted to stop us. This kid is inspired and he doesn't even realize it.
Spiritual thought! A lot of people deny the existence of a God today because the world is such a mess. Some food for thought though: What if He didn't leave us, but we left Him? We see everywhere in the Book of Mormon where people forget God in their prosperity and then ultimately end up falling into spiritual and often literal destruction. Part of this is because God "worketh by power, according to the faith of the children of men" (Moroni 10:7). God's influence is directly proportional to our faith and righteousness. Without turning to God, Satan has greater power over us. I think it's safe to say that society as a whole is pretty distant from God today, so it's more us who have abandoned God, not the other way around. Faith in God and His son Jesus Christ is the instigator in change. If everyone genuinely believed in Christ and tried to be like Him, the world would be a much better place. I want each of you this week to identify a way in which you can turn to Christ and rely on Him to help you through your struggles. He wants us to do this because He knows we can't get through everything alone. Satan works 24/7 to break us down and he's really good at it. However, I promise as you put forth true effort to find Christ, He will be there every step of the way and Satan will be the one running.
I hope that made sense. I think that was the third or fourth attempt at writing that in a concise way.

Un'altra settimana trascorsa, un altro stipendio di Chick-fil-A del liceo fuori dalla finestra. Non fate come me. Almeno la nostra zona è più alla moda di quella di Bologna.
Questa settimana è stata piuttosto fiacca, in parte perché c'è stata la Conferenza Generale (ma non fatevi ingannare, la Conferenza è stata formidabile). La Conferenza generale è il momento in cui i profeti e i dirigenti della nostra Chiesa parlano e viene trasmessa in tutto il mondo. È piuttosto impressionante e l'emozione come missionario è stata irreale. Andate a guardarla se volete ascoltare un moderno profeta di Dio. Non so voi, ma a me sembra piuttosto epico (spoiler: lo è).
Alcune altre cose di questa settimana:
-Abbiamo iniziato a parlare di dottrina con un prete cattolico. È stata un'esperienza pazzesca, ma gli piace incontrarci.
-Abbiamo costretto le Sorelle a bere il succo di pera. Sorella Hurst non era entusiasta.
-Abbiamo organizzato una serata di karaoke con i Giovani Adulti del nostro rione. Ci sono state delle esibizioni straordinarie.
-Ho preparato una torta alla nutella in una pentola per il consiglio di distretto. Convertire tutto dal sistema di misura statunitense, quando qui tutto si misura in grammi, è un vero incubo.
MIRACOLO: Ieri sera ci sentivamo piuttosto giù perché eravamo in giro da tre ore e nessuno ci aveva parlato. Eravamo così tristi che ci siamo fermati a mangiare da McDonalds. MA alla fine abbiamo trovato un ragazzo di nome Diego e lui ha accettato di incontrarci di nuovo, quindi è stato fantastico. MA ASPETTATE, dopo che ce ne siamo andati, ci ha chiamato dal fondo della strada per assicurarsi che avessimo il numero giusto. Si è scoperto che il suo numero di telefono era sbagliato nei nostri contatti, così l'ha sistemato. Non saremmo riusciti a contattarlo di nuovo se non ci avesse fermato. Questo ragazzo è ispirato e non se ne rende nemmeno conto.
Un pensiero spirituale! Molte persone oggi negano l'esistenza di un Dio perché il mondo è così problematico. Tuttavia ecco un'idea che ci fa riflettere: E se non fosse Lui a lasciare noi, ma noi a lasciare Lui? Nel Libro di Mormon vediamo ovunque persone che dimenticano Dio nella loro prosperità e poi finiscono per cadere nella distruzione spirituale e spesso totale. In parte ciò è dovuto al fatto che Dio "opera con potere, secondo la fede dei figlioli degli uomini" (Moroni 10:7). L'influenza di Dio è direttamente proporzionale alla nostra fede e alla nostra rettitudine. Se non ci rivolgiamo a Dio, Satana ha un potere maggiore su di noi. Penso che si possa dire che la società nel suo complesso è piuttosto lontana da Dio oggi, quindi siamo più noi che abbiamo abbandonato Dio, non il contrario. La fede in Dio e in Suo figlio Gesù Cristo è l'elemento scatenante del cambiamento. Se tutti credessero veramente in Cristo e cercassero di essere come Lui, il mondo sarebbe un posto molto migliore. Questa settimana voglio che ognuno di voi individui un modo in cui possiate rivolgervi a Cristo e fare affidamento su di Lui per aiutarvi a superare le vostre difficoltà. Egli vuole che lo facciamo perché sa che non possiamo affrontare tutto da soli. Satana lavora 24 ore su 24, 7 giorni su 7, per abbatterci e ci riesce molto bene. Tuttavia, vi prometto che se vi impegnate veramente per trovare Cristo, Lui sarà presente a ogni passo del vostro cammino e sarà Satana quello che scappa.
Spero che quanto detto abbia avuto un senso. Credo che sia stato il mio terzo o quarto tentativo di scriverlo in modo conciso.
