Week 11: Passing Cars on the Highway at 200 MPH

This week has been one of the wildest of the mission. I think we had maybe one normal day this week. Here's the rundown:
Thursday: we went to Milan for our 5 week training. I got to see all the homies from the MTC which was super awesome. Because Florence is so far from Milan, we always get to take the Frecciarossa which is the fastest train in Italy (300 kph, roughly 200 mph). We were running alongside the highway and were zooming past cars (so no sorry we were not driving on the highway as you might have assumed from the title). Sorella Zeidner also got a shipment of Goldfish in the mail so shout-out to her for those because I've been living off of Pringles and pretzels for weeks.
Friday: we found a scorpion in the baptismal font. I didn't know they existed in Italy. Also, the Prato Anziani got their car towed. Because I'm the only one in the area with a physical copy of my international driver's license, I had to go there to get their car for them. It turns out that they didn't need it so the whole trip was unnecessary. We made friends with some chickens though so that was a plus.
Saturday: we met this guy named Gino who was super interested in learning about our church. We were supposed to have just a short lesson with him but ended up hanging out with him for 7 hours. He came with us to someone's house and helped them move and we all stayed for dinner.
Sunday: not a single member of the Bishopric or the Elders Quorum presidency was at church (they're off at a service project for the week). It was quite a strange sacrament meeting.
Monday: we were waiting for transfer news all day, so whenever our phones would buzz, we'd fall out of our chairs thinking they had come. It turned out that basically none of our district is changing this transfer, but next transfer is gonna be a bloodbath for sure. The Sorelle also had a baptism!
Tuesday: we ate funfetti cake at district council, shout-out to our Firenze Sorelle.
Spiritual thought! I went to a BYU devotional by Elder Holland (a really awesome leader of our church) back in January and I relistened to it like four times this week. While the devotional talks about intense trials in life, one thing I love that Elder Holland says is: "I promise you that God does not lie awake nights trying to figure out ways to disappoint us or harm us or crush our dreams or our faith." One amazing aspect of our religion is that God is our Heavenly Father and He loves us. While He lets us go through difficult things, He does it so we can grow, NOT because He wants to destroy us or watch us suffer. He wants us to return to live with Him and He does all in His power to help us. That's why He restored His church. That's why we have a living prophet today. That's why I'm on a mission. This gospel is a gospel of hope, peace, and joy and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Anziano Yokota and I redeemed our terrible street contacting from last month so we took a picture with a Lamborghini to celebrate. Everything I'm wearing in this picture was bought in Florence. Rip my bank account📉📉📉/Io e Anziano Yokota abbiamo migliorato il nostro pessimo approccio per strada con la gente del mese scorso, quindi abbiamo fatto una foto con una Lamborghini per festeggiare. Questa settimana è stata una delle più frenetiche della missione. Credo che questa settimana abbiamo avuto forse un solo giorno normale. Ecco il resoconto:
Giovedì: siamo andati a Milano per il nostro addestramento della quinta settimana. Ho rivisto tutti gli amici dell'MTC, il che è stato fantastico. Poiché Firenze è così lontana da Milano, prendiamo sempre il Frecciarossa, che è il treno più veloce d'Italia (300 km/h). Stavamo costeggiando l'autostrada e sfrecciavamo davanti alle auto (quindi no, mi dispiace, non stavamo guidando sull'autostrada come potreste pensare dal titolo). Sorella Zeidner ha anche ricevuto una spedizione di Goldfish per posta, quindi Urrà a Sorella Zeidner per quelli, perché io ho vissuto solo di Pringles e pretzel per settimane.
Venerdì: abbiamo trovato uno scorpione nel fonte battesimale. Non sapevo che esistessero in Italia. Inoltre, agli Anziani di Prato hanno rimorchiato la macchina. Siccome sono l'unico in zona ad avere una copia cartacea della mia patente internazionale, sono dovuto andare a prendere l'auto per loro. Alla fine non ne avevano bisogno, quindi il viaggio è stato inutile. Abbiamo però fatto amicizia con alcune galline e questa è stata una cosa positiva.
Sabato: abbiamo incontrato un ragazzo di nome Gino che era molto interessato a conoscere la nostra chiesa. Dovevamo fare solo una breve lezione con lui, ma abbiamo finito per stare con lui per 7 ore. È venuto con noi a casa di una persona, l'ha aiutata a traslocare e siamo rimasti tutti a cena.
Domenica: nessun membro del Vescovato o della presidenza del Quorum degli Anziani era in chiesa (sono fuori per un progetto di servizio questa settimana). È stata una riunione sacramentale piuttosto strana.
Lunedì: siamo stati tutto il giorno in attesa di notizie sui trasferimenti, così ogni volta che i nostri telefoni squillavano, cadevamo dalla sedia pensando che fossero arrivati. Si è scoperto che praticamente nessuno del nostro distretto cambierà questo trasferimento, ma il prossimo sarà sicuramente una strage. Le Sorelle hanno avuto anche un battesimo!
Martedì: abbiamo mangiato una torta con codette di zucchero colorate al consiglio di distretto, un ringraziamento alle nostre Sorelle di Firenze.
Pensiero spirituale! Ho assistito a un devozionale a BYU tenuto dall'Anziano Holland (un leader davvero fantastico della nostra chiesa) a gennaio scorso e l'ho riascoltato circa quattro volte questa settimana. Anche se il devozionale parla di prove intense della vita, una cosa che mi piace molto che l'Anziano Holland dice, è: "Vi prometto che Dio non sta sveglio la notte cercando di trovare il modo di deluderci o di farci del male o di distruggere i nostri sogni o la nostra fede". Un aspetto straordinario della nostra religione è che Dio è il nostro Padre Celeste e ci ama. Se ci lascia passare attraverso cose difficili, lo fa perché possiamo crescere, NON perché vuole distruggerci o vederci soffrire. Vuole che torniamo a vivere con Lui e fa tutto ciò che è in suo potere per aiutarci. Ecco perché ha restaurato la Sua chiesa. Ecco perché oggi abbiamo un profeta vivente. Ecco perché sono in missione. Questo vangelo è un vangelo di speranza, pace e gioia e non vorrei che fosse diversamente.
Andate a vedere il devozionale. Ascoltate a velocità doppia se siete impazienti, ma fatelo.
